The picks are in for Sunday night’s game between the Seahawks and Chiefs at CenturyLink Field in Seattle (8:20 p.m. ET/5:20 p.m. PT), and not surprisingly, experts seem split on which way this game will go.
Some think the Seahawks will be able to pound away at a suspect Chiefs defense and grind out a win in front of what will be a loud and energized home crowd.
Others think Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be able to withstand the crowd noise and make enough plays for his team to walk out of Seattle with a victory, and that the Seahawks might be a tad bit banged up to come out on top in this one.
It should be a hard-fought game, one with a playoff atmosphere that creates plenty of entertaining moments for the CenturyLink Field crowd and those watching at home on Sunday Night Football.
Here’s a rundown of what national analysts and reporters are saying about this week’s game.
“Both teams are coming off tough losses and need this game,” wrote Prisco. “That will make for a classic battle between the Chiefs offense and Patrick Mahomes against the Seattle defense, which plays especially well at home. I think the key, though, will be Seattle’s ability to run the football and control the clock. I think they will and win this game.” Click here for Prisco’s full Week 16 picks, which include the Eagles over Texans and Saints over the Steelers.
“It’s become increasingly hard to buy that this is the Chiefs’ year,” Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon said. “They just haven’t been the same team with Kareem Hunt gone, Sammy Watkins out and Tyreek Hill hobbled, and they haven’t played a completely strong game in well over a month. They struggled on the road in Denver, Los Angeles (at least defensively against the Rams) and Oakland, and if you can’t beat the Rams or New England on the road, you’re likely going to have trouble with the Seahawks. After all, Seattle is one of the best home teams in the NFL, and it needs a win even more than the Chiefs do.” Click here for the full Week 16 predictions.
Adam Teicher, Chiefs reporter: Chiefs 34, Seahawks 27 – “The Seahawks are 0-4 in games against teams that, like the Chiefs, are in the top 10 in scoring. The Seahawks are ninth in scoring but have posted more than 31 points just once, against the lowly 49ers. The Chiefs have been over 31 points eight times and are better equipped to win a shootout, which this game will become.”
Brady Henderson, Seahawks reporter: Chiefs 34, Seahawks 30 – The Seahawks’ defense had several coverage busts in the first half of their overtime loss to the 49ers in Week 15, showing what a great playcaller like Kyle Shanahan can do against Seattle even without a great cast of skill players. It’ll get much harder Sunday against the bright offensive mind of Andy Reid and arguably the NFL’s best quarterback/receiver/tight end trio in Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. The Seahawks are a whopping 16-2 in prime-time home games under Pete Carroll, but a dangerous Chiefs offense that leads the league in scoring plus a banged-up Seahawks roster is a bad combination.” Click here for NFL Nation’s Week 16 picks.
